Description

An established asphalt contractor is looking for an experienced Asphalt Paving Supervisor to join its team in the Southern Lakes.

This is an opportunity for a hands-on asphalt professional who knows the industry inside out and has the practical skills to lead a paving crew while remaining actively involved in the operation.

This is not a desk-based supervisory role. We're looking for someone with strong screed operating experience who can take charge of a paving crew, run a hand-lay team and ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to a high standard.

Working closely with the Operations Manager, you'll take ownership of the day-to-day paving operation, with support around scheduling, programming and resource coordination.

What you'll be responsible for:

  • Leading and coordinating an asphalt paving crew across various projects.
  • Operating the screed on the back of the paver when required.
  • Running a hand lay crew and ensuring quality finishing.
  • Overseeing paving operations from job setup through to completion.
  • Coordinating plant, equipment, trucks, labour and asphalt deliveries.
  • Maintaining quality standards and ensuring work meets specifications.
  • Driving a strong health and safety culture across site operations.
  • Monitoring productivity and ensuring jobs run efficiently.
  • Providing practical leadership, guidance and mentoring to crew members.
  • Working alongside the Operations Manager to plan and coordinate upcoming work.

What we're looking for:

  • Proven experience within the asphalt paving industry.
  • Strong screed operating experience on an asphalt paver.
  • Previous experience leading or supervising an asphalt paving crew.
  • Practical experience running a hand-lay crew.
  • A good understanding of asphalt paving techniques and finishing.
  • The ability to lead from the front and get hands-on when required.
  • Strong communication, organisation and problem-solving skills.
  • Someone who takes ownership, backs their team and takes pride in their work.

What's on offer?

  • Salary of up to $120,000 per annum, depending on experience.
  • Private use vehicle.
  • Relocation assistance available for the right person.
  • A key leadership position within an established asphalt operation.
  • Support from an experienced Operations Manager.
  • The opportunity to work across the Southern Lakes, including Queenstown and Wanaka.

Based in the Southern Lakes, you'll be working across the wider region and playing an important role in the delivery of asphalt paving projects.

Candidates must have the right to live and work in New Zealand. As part of our dedication to safety and excellence, the selected candidate will undergo an MOJ and medical assessment, including drug and alcohol screening.
