At Franklin Smith, we believe in going the extra mile not just in the work we do but in how we show our appreciation to clients and employees alike. A few weeks back, we partnered with Bunnings Trade to feed 200+ tradies on the New Plymouth Hospital Project.

In true Franklin Smith style, it wasn’t just any BBQ with some half-cooked, pre-cooked snags wrapped in white death and onions. We rolled in Smok’n Comrades, a local Taranaki-based Low n Slow Barbecue Company, who put on beef brisket and pulled pork burgers with a side of potatoes for the entire site.

One of the skills we assessed during trade testing in Manila was duct fabrication. Dale set candidates a clear task to evaluate their skills, accuracy, and speed, allowing us to gauge both their interview performance and practical abilities. With prior experience as a duct fitter, Dale provided invaluable insights that helped us pinpoint the top talent.

In depth trade testing allows us to see who can not only talk the talk but also walk the walk.

Extensive/ in-depth face to face interviews follow

Extensive/ in-depth face to face interviews followed trade testing of all the tradesmen we bring in from overseas is a non-negotiable at Franklin Smith. Going through this process ensures we are selecting the best of the best when it comes to building our specialist trades teams across the country. Including our clients in this process also adds an extra level of certainty in our selection process.

Late last year we travelled to Manila with some of our key clients to carry out trade testing of Electricians, Pipe Fitters , Pipe Welders, Sprinkler fitters and Duct fabricators.

Over the next week we will share a video series detailing each trade test carried out on this trip to show how important this process is to maintaining our extremely high standards when it comes to our overseas recruitment model.
