Plumbing/Pipe Fitting Leading Hand | Dunedin | $40–$45 per hour | Long-Term Opportunity
A well-established mechanical services contractor is seeking an experienced Plumbing / Pipe Fitting Leading Hand to join a major commercial project in Dunedin.
This is a senior, hands-on position suited to a tradesperson with strong plumbing or pipe fitting experience and proven Leading Hand experience. The ability to lead a team, coordinate day-to-day work and effectively communicate with site managers, clients and a diverse workforce will be key to success in this role.
The successful candidate will play an important role in coordinating site activities, supporting the wider plumbing and mechanical team, and ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard.
The Role
- Lead and coordinate a team of plumbers and pipe fitters on site
- Provide clear direction and support to a diverse, multicultural workforce
- Liaise regularly with site managers, project management and clients
- Carry out hands-on plumbing and pipe fitting work as required
- Read and interpret plans, drawings and project specifications
- Coordinate daily work with other trades and contractors
- Assist with planning, sequencing and allocation of daily tasks
- Monitor productivity, quality and health and safety across the work area
- Identify and resolve issues on site to keep the project moving
- Maintain a high standard of workmanship and professionalism
What They're Looking For
- Proven Leading Hand experience is essential
- Strong plumbing and/or pipe fitting background
- Good New Zealand commercial experience
- Experience leading and coordinating tradespeople on larger projects
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a diverse workforce
- Confident liaising with site managers, clients and other contractors
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and plans
- Strong organisational, problem-solving and decision-making skills
- A Registered or Exempt Plumber is preferred, however candidates without NZ registration may still be considered
- Support can be provided with the NZ plumbing registration/exemption pathway for the right candidate
- Relevant overseas commercial experience will be considered alongside NZ experience
